Today, McCarthy Family Farm grows premium fruit and other high-quality farm products using sustainable farming practices. In addition to the pears, apples, and peonies that we sell through our online store, we grow cherries, hay, cattle, and Christmas trees for wholesale customers. We also offer farm management services for orchardists, farmers and ranchers in the Hood River Valley.

Our team includes farmers, orchardists, ranchers and forest managers who deeply care about the land, one another, our community and our customers. Our friendly customer service team is available Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. to help with farm orders from individuals and wholesale customers.


Adam McCarthy – Farm Manager

Adam returned to the Hood River Valley in 2013 to run the family farm. As the full-time manager of McCarthy Family Farm, Adam oversees all operations and personnel. A graduate of Hood River High School, Adam attended the University of California, Davis, where he earned a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in agricultural and resource economics. After graduating, he went on to work as an Orchard Manager at Harry & David, where he worked for six years. Adam is currently serving as President of the Hood River Grower Shipper Association. He’s also on the board of the Hood River Supply Association and the board of the Washington-Oregon Canned Pear Association. Adam lives in Hood River with his wife Staci, who runs her own law practice McCarthy Law, LLC. They have two children, Elli and Graham.


Mike McCarthy – Farmer Emeritus

Mike was born in Roseburg, where he was raised on a small farm. After obtaining both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in agriculture from Oregon State University, Mike went on to earn his PhD from Michigan State University. He and his family returned to the Hood River Valley in 1980 to expand the family farm that his grandfather settled in 1910. Mike and Susan raised three children —Kate, Adam and Luke — on the farm. Mike was responsible for modernizing the farm and assembling the land base that could support his children returning to the farm business. While he has turned over the day-to-day management to his son, Adam, he is frequently found working with employees, operating equipment, or managing the family’s forestland.

Mike is passionate about keeping working lands in production and is a strong advocate for maintaining and strengthening land-use planning. Mike previously served on the 1000 Friends of Oregon Farm Advisory Committee before joining the board of directors in 2010. He is currently serving as the President of the board for 1000 Friends of Oregon. Mike is also currently serving on the Parkdale Valley Land Trust Board and the State Board of the Oregon Farm Bureau. He has served on the boards of Hood River Valley Residents Committee, Hood River Grower Shipper Association, Crystal Springs Water District Board of Directors, and Middle Fork Irrigation District.


Luke McCarthy

Luke oversees the areas of finance, capital raising and business development for McCarthy Family Farm. He maintains a full-time position as Vice President of Loan Syndications at Rabobank, where he has worked in agricultural finance for eight years. Prior to that, he worked in project finance for a sugar and ethanol company from India. Luke has a Bachelor of Science in applied economics and management, from Cornell University. He also earned a Master of Science / Master of Business Administration in food and agribusiness management from Purdue University and the Kelly School of Business at Indiana University. Luke lives in Hood River with his wife Caitlin, a physician at Mid-Columbia Medical Center, and their daughter Piper.


Kate Lott, DVM

Kate is a large animal veterinarian who practiced in Michigan for eight years, where she fell in love with dairy cows. After moving back to Oregon to practice as a vet, she joined the Tillamook Creamery Association. As their Director of Farm Engagement, she helps the Tillamook co-op members implement best practices to produce the best and safest cheese and dairy products possible. Kate has a Bachelor of Science in biology from Linfield College and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Michigan State University. She lives in Tillamook, Oregon with her husband, Ethan, and their two sons, Zach and Gavin.
